Before I let you know the reasons let’s know the basic definition of trekking or hiking. Trekking is nothing but a slow paced long arduous journey, on foot.
Now let’s know the reasons;
Happiness Studies have proved that activities like hiking and trekking have therapeutic effects. It can help people over depression and those who have been really aloof recently can make good social bonds with others on the trail. This helps our mind to get more creative and think through the difficult times because when you interact with nature especially mountains it doesn’t have any opinion on what you think. Thus there lies the challenge with utmost blissfulness.
Fitness It’s clear to everyone that frequent physical activity keeps us fit and healthy. But one must know trekking improves your core strength by making your legs strong and also increases your cardiovascular health to a good level. It also increases blood flow to the muscles and the brain, improving the circulatory and respiratory system’s health Trekking at least for 4-6 hours can help you burn lots of calories which in turn decreases your body weight if practiced often.
Social Benefits Trekking in groups will increase bonds with each other because while trekking we are required to work as a team. This helps us to know each other better by knowing our partners’ weaknesses and strengths. Also in this tech era being out in nature could just be additionally beneficial when we are away from our typical daily routines with gadgets. You may wonder at times people you trek with might become your lifelong friends after spending a week in the wilderness.
Discipline In my experience, I always liked trekking in the early hours to watch the sunrise from the peak of a mountain. This needs timing and plan with discipline. With a few crazy heads like my friends I always had to keep myself planned beforehand to make sure everything goes well. Also while trekking there could be difficult terrains where you need to be disciplined enough to follow the right path and without challenging nature.
Leadership This can be learnt when you are trekking on difficult trails with your group. You know, in a group there is always a weak person and a strong person. There can be people with different attitudes and from different backgrounds. Thus naturally a person with a matured and disciplined mind becomes a leader in challenging scenarios. This is what trekking in mountains does to you, it brings out a new spirit out of you.
Now don’t look for a reason to trek or hike, just go do it. But remember, never challenge nature, just be kind and bow down to it, it will give you whatever you need.
Note: These are out of my experiences in trekking. It doesn't have to be the same with everyone.
